Its often seen clustering in habitat, less often in cultivation. If it takes 80 years to start then maybe I'll not hold my breath for mine :)

When these plants start to become tall, they seem to do better in the ground. Not everyone can do this, however. My neighbor has one about your size, and at when it gets pot bound, the tallest cactus tends to die & fall over. Here is a cluster in the ground.

Your group is magnificent, it looks like a Cleistocactus, probably strausii though, Pete's looks like Cephalocereus senilis. Have you ever tried Cleistocactus jujuyensis? Slightly yellow to it.
