Creeping Death on Euphorbia Trigona?

This large Euphorbia Trigona was given to me a few weeks ago. It had a bad case of white powdery fungus. I first sprayed it with an alcohol / water solution and approximately a week later with a commercial fungus spray. My question is this. If I assume the plant is dying from the Creeping Death as shown in photo, what did my spraying do to cause it? It had fungus before, but then it was green. Euphorbias allergic to alcohol? I will say the plant is in my outside quarantine area and it has been on the cool side at night recently. Maybe the combination of fungus damage + spraying + cold temps at night + change in growing location was too much for the plant to overcome. Fungus is gone, but I fear the plant is gone as well.
