Here are some very lovely plants with black spines.
Does anyone know their names?

The second two look very much like Neoporterias to me. No idea what species, the genus used to be huge but has been reduced to just a few very variable species of Eriosyce. The first one. Lobivia?

I have no idea what the first should be. The second one maybe Neochilenia (Neoporteria) jussieui (it has dirty-white flower). The third one is Eriosyce (horrida???). I love the last two. Robi

I love black spined cactus, these are beautiful. Did you just get them? When buying seeds I always look for black spines in the description, also blue or purple skin. Dan Lincoln, NE USDA 5 |

Thanks Dan, yes I just got them. I have a cactus with a purple blush on a blue-green body.

I too love the black-spined Eriosyce and relatives. Also, those that turn purple in the sun are always fun:

S&B! What's that plant above? Notocactus ottonis v oxycostatus? Or not an ottonis? Thanks for your nice posting! Robi

Kathy, If you like those black-spined/purple bodied plants, you simply must get Neochilenia occulta, if you haven't already. Oh, wait..........that's right - everything globular is either Echnopsis or Eriosyce, isn't it?

I have this plant as Notocactus oxycostatus, although it isn't clear to me how to reliably distinguish it from N. ottonis (except with seed and a microscope?). I can't find any reference to N. ottonis var oxycostatus, is there a new arrangement of the genus that I haven't seen?

Yes, I tried to find any mention of the ottonis relationship, but I didn't find, too. But I took a good look at all of my downloaded seedlist, and no results.
