Autumn color

The cactus in the attched photo is Astrophytum myriostigma v nudum cv red bean koyo. This cactus was dark green in summer but it is going to change the color to red.

I sowed the seed on 17/09/04 and grafted the seedling once on a Hylocereus but I regrafted it on a Harrisia jusbertii last year. The current size is 7 cm diameter.

Beautiful plant! I heard this Koh-yo is only present in young plants and adults just stay green all year. What's your experience? I have a Koh-yo asterias and the first 2 years after sowing the plant became completely yellow in winter, this year it only became light green...

You are correct. Only juvenile Koh-yo turns it color in winter. If the crimate was not cold enogh, the color is also not turned even if it is a juvenile plant.

The adult pants stay green but Koh-yo gene is remained. New seedling germinated form seeds collected the plant will turn the color.
