Hmmm this cross is very unlikely to happen, but perhaps that guy pollinated hundreds of flowers and did some special tricks to obtain some seeds... Anyway this plant has characteristics of both claimed parents...

Pieter , I don't think so. I aggree with you , if you try to cross pollinate between the usual Ariocarpus sp. and Gymnocalycium , you have never got the hybrid. But if you use the Ariocarpus hybrid especially the variegated hybrid (which you can often get from agavoides x kotschobeyanus or retusus x scapharostris, please refer to this link http://www.living-rocks.com/cultivars2.htm) , it might be possible that this variegated hybrid might have the abnormal gene which you can cross pollinate with Gymnocalycium and got a new hybrid. That is my hypothesis and need more experiments to confirm this. How about's your opinion ? Can anyone tell me about this hybrid of Arios x Gymno ?

rjm710, I think it's different from C. sunderlandii. Now , the auction has ended with 196 pounds, very crazy.
