Will a re-pot kill the flowers?

I have one opuntia that's doing well enough to be loaded with blooms soon. It's an outdoor plant that gets watered every month or two. It's healthy but the roots are reaching out.
I think I should cut the roots and not re-pot, but if I cut the roots will it mess up the blooming? I can wait until they fall off but should I even bother?
