I have this plant in back of the house where it only gets afternoon sun. One blossom opened yesterday, and I brought the plant inside to enjoy it because sometimes I miss things these days. It didn't bloom at all last year, so I must have done something right in the interim.

Beautiful!
They bloom better when a little snug around the roots...
When you repot it,just go to the next size up.

So it seems, Omni. That thought occurred to me as I was wondering why this year and not last! I do always go to just the next size up, though. I wonder if there is anything else I inadvertently did right this past year. Less sun? Could that be it?

I beg to Differ, I have a cactus such as this, its about 12" inches tall, it is 3 years old. I planted it in a over size pot and it blooms every year. first yr. 1 bloom, 2nd year 2 blooms and waiting to bloom this year. It always produces off spring every year also. had about 10 off spring so far. I truely loved when it bloomed! I'm in ohio and take inside in winter and all summer its outside! It has really gotten alot bigger since I transfered to a bigger pot, I transplant the off spring and their growing good!

I have this also (flowers maybe a little pinker)and its in full sun/wind/rain in a community pot with other cacti in my veggy garden, i just try not to water it when i water my veggies! Had it a few years and it's offsetting but i think it's only ever had 1 flower at a time.
