I think those are called peanut cacti.

will it be ok with all those pups on it?and it's kinda climbed out one side of the pot,think it was somewhat neglected before i got it,need i do anything with it?

I'm not so sure on the ID. The areoles on C. sylvestri tend to line up, almost looking like ribs. It may even be a Mammillaria, etiolated, with those areoles. As usual, flowers will clinch it.

The pups are OK, some species just do this. If its the peanut cactus then it tends to get a bit dangly, although you can keep it compact for a good long while with plenty of sun and careful feeding. You could always take one of the pups and grow it under better conditions to see what it should really be like.

it flowered about 5 weeks ago,just before i was given it,don't know what colour they were,but i do know they came out all over the plant,will try to find out what colour they were,does it have any special watering/feeding needs

It is not a peanut cactus, it looks like a type of Mammillaria. If it were mine, I would cut off the hanging pups to make the plant symmetrical and fit into the pot better. The pups can be rooted to grow new plants if you wish.
Treat it like any cactus.

I think it's a Mammillaria also.
