What kind of cactus is this?

My husband brought me a tall thin cactus back from AZ about 5 years ago. We have it outside in the summer and bring it in the fall. It is about 3ft tall and looks kike a Mexican post but it has formed buds on now and the buds are about 4" long and are punk and big. The followers haven't opened yet.
