Old cactus identity?

Hi,

I'm a college student trying to grow plants. The cactus pictured is a well rooted cutting from a very old cactus belonging to my grandmother. The cutting is only a few years old, but the original plant is over 30 years old, and very tall. Does anyone have an idea as to what this cactus is? I'm worried about the plant, for I transplanted it into a glass planter a few weeks ago, and its tiny leaves are starting to turn light green. Suggestions? Very much appreciative,

It's a euphorbia, common name "African Milk Tree" and it is a succulent not a true cactus. The pot worries me as, like cacti they need porus soil and they need good drainage. Leaves often turn and fall and grow more.

Specifically, it's a Euphorbia trigona. I've got one of those. But it's just a wee baby.
