Mine is getting ready to bloom, we will have to compare.

The stalk is a raceme: the flowers will open from the bottom up, one after another.

Because you don't have any hummingbirds over there in jolly ol' England, it is important that you run around flapping your wings and humming of good tune in order to keep the plant happy.

Or not.

Well, i could wave a brush at them while humming.......

What's happening today?

Half the world's eagerly anticipating the event.

Folks from Hawaii to the Hamptons are waiting.

Not open yet, a distinct lack of sun, tho the raceme is stretching somewhat and the bottm bud is bigger.

Things are getting tense in the Aloemad household! ;)

The lowest flower opened, but it seems its exhibiting cleistogamy by not opening fully. Its been like this for a day or 2 now.

Well, that bottom flower is finished now, I wonder if I'll get a second stem whe its all done?

Is the flower the bell shaped bellatula?

Well, the petals do flare slightly at the end like a bell but its very subtle.

On all the pictures I've seen of bellatula flowers, the flare is quite pronounced. Maybe yours is a hybrid. It's very pretty, whatever its lineage.

When I had it last year it was labelled bellatula var boyleii or something like that.
