Usually wilting schlumbergera are caused by root problems. Perhaps the potting medium was mostly peat and when it dries completely it is hard to get new water in. The potting medium may have shrunk away from the sides of the pot in this situation. If this is the case, soak the plant in water for about 10 - 15 minutes and then if it looks plumpled up, let excess water drain off.

Sometimes little bugs attack the roots and the part of the stem that is in the potting medium. They are very tiny and whitish...if you blow on the top of the medium you can sometimes see them scurrying around heading for cover. A gentle tug on the plant stem could tell you if it's still solidly in the medium. If you have these bugs, you will need an insecticidal soap or something to get rid of them.

In the meantime, I suggest that you take a few cuttings and try to root them in a baggy...puffed up by breathing into it and sealed. Once it roots and the roots are about 1/4 to 1/3 inch log, pot them up. If you only have very wilted stem segments, you may want to soak them in water first for a day to try to get them to plump up a bit first.

Some people root them in water and if you try this, don't let the roots get too long before potting them up...do it again when they are 1/4 to 1/3 inch long. Water roots are different from soil roots.

Others root them directly in the potting medium.
