The third and last dwarf Euphorbia I would like to introduce is the geophytic E. platycephala.

Described by Pax in 1894 it is one of the longer known species but rarely seen in cultivation.

Its occurrence in the seasonal humid grasslands of W Tanzania, Malawi, Zambia and N Zimbabwe gives a clue to its cultivation. When active growing E. platycephala requires plenty of water and likes to be kept almost non-stop humid. In winter when the annual shoots wither and die back it should be kept warm and totally dry. If treated like a difficult plant, in other words if only carefully = insufficiently watered in summer the plant dries out and fades away in next winter.
