I'm not sure that is a friedrichii. I'm thinking it could be a G. stenopleurum. The G.friedrichii flower I think is pink. Hopefully Bill will chime in and clearify this.

Hello Michelle, I think I know what Bill will say about that... 'cause he just said it to me, my nice mihanovichii, turned out to be stenopleurum (friedrichii) because of it's beautiful pink flowers. He sent me this link regarding the Taxonomic controversy of mihanovichii, stenopleurum and freidrichii.

Thank you all for your kind words. This Gymnocalycium was purchased from a mailorder catalogue and it was labelled as friedrichii.
I had a look at the link and found it very interesting, does that mean I should change the name tag to G. stenopleurum.
I have a few other unknown mihanovichii, stenopleurum and freidrichii plants so I will have to post them when they.
