Not familiar with the name E.'Fire Chief' it has the look of a cross between E.harmsii and E.setosa and similar to E.'Set Oliver' and E.'Spruce Oliver' in growth habit.

Yes, I agree. The old hybrid of these two is 'Set-Oliver', a Victor Reiter hybrid from the 50's (or sometime back then). It could be someone stuck a new name on that one. I have a hard time telling it from setosa. And, there may actually be other named cutlivars like 'Set-Oliver', Victor Reiter gave his hybrids names that combined the parents. In this case "Oliver" refers to the old genus name for Echeveria harmsii--Oliveranthus.

One little tidbit--a number of years ago at our local San Francisco chapter, we were treated to a program on echeveria hybridizing by Bob Grim. He told us that the hairiness in these species is recessive, so hairy crosses would have both parents being hairy types (harmsii, setosa, pulvinata, etc.). So, for example, 'Deren-Oliver' has smooth gray leaves, since its other parent is derenbergii.

Is there any info available on Bob Grim's hybrids as we in the UK are a bit in the dark regarding a lot of the hybrids and hybridisers and it would be very interesting to find out more about them.
