This picture simply does not do this plant justice! This is Aloinopsis rubrolineata. I got this plant from Shoal Creek in a recent order. All the plants I received from them were in excellent health and they were huge!

This one has a gorgeous, thick root system and when I potted it up, I raised it slightly so that some of the roots can be seen. I can see new leaf buds emerging from the old stems, and I feel certain that it is in active growth right now. Its cousin nearby, Aloinopsis orpenii is sending up new leaf pairs also. Both receive light drinks from my mister on the sunniest days and are living in an east facing windowsill.

Architecturally, this plant is a real stunner. I can't get over the "caudex" shape of the raised roots. I tried to get a picture of them but it's near impossible. Perhaps when it's outside next year I'll be able to get better pics. For now, I'm totally smitten with it!

Here's a profile shot, where I was attempting to show the roots.

I hope you get a good caudex. It might well be in growth now. It grows, and flowers, in winter if it gets good light. Hopefully you'll also get to see why it is called rubrolineata ;)

Lovely pic Amy, you do great justice to the texture of the leaves in those shots.

Yes, S&B, I'm really looking forward to stripey flowers! :)

Thanks Dawn and CP. The leaves feel like rubbery velvet and are ever so fun to pinch! LOL Kinda feels like textured gummy bears!

No plants were harmed in the making of these photos...
