Opinion seconded. It looks like a rooted cutting of the Argentinian toothpick cactus :)

I'm going to have to disagree with my young grasshopper friends. Way too often I see this particular cactus ID'd as a S. coryne. While you have a young plant here it may look quite different when it grows up but I'm going to label this little guy Trichocereus fulvilanus. The problem with the frequent use of the S. coryne ID is that there are just little to no pic's of T. fulvilanus available for comparison on the WWW. I'm sticking to my books. I have seen good pic's of S. coryne on the web and in Miles Anderson's book and they do not resemble your little guy.

Hard to beat an ol' spinehopper like Cactus Jordi...
I would say it's definitely a Stetsonia.
Trichocereus fulvilanus is quite different.

So is the Argentinian toothpick cactus (Stetsonia)commonly found at big box stores in the US? That's where I got this guy. Seems unusual for a cactus from Argentia that reaches 30 feet tall to be easy to mass produce for US cactus newbies. Very interesting, I'll also see if I can find a book with the Trichocereus fulvilanus it in just so I can see it.

Stetsonia coryne is a very common cactus in the box stores, simply because it is distinctive and appealing when small. I've never seen Trichocereus fulvilanus for sale anywhere, it may or may not look like this. This cactus does seem to have a lot of spines, more than the ten or so I would expect on Stetsonia.
