Hard to believe they are related to Astrophytum, look more like Leuchtenbergia. Did you buy any? Flowers very much like Astrophytum asterias. Good find, nothing like that ever here at our HD :-(

Tell us another history, It is almost impossible to get them in Home Depot. Maybe you go to the "Home Depot" of Cactus Jordi and get them.

You are right, these about 18 months old 'HD'-seedlings look like almost nothing or in the best case like young chives.
But eventually they will look VERY weird and interesting like this only 14 months plant, which had been pushed being grafted for 11 months:
