Identity Query?

Recently been given a Ferocactus Stainsii as a birthday gift and was considering adding a few more fero's to my collection and discovered that F.Pilosus is just a synonym of F.Stainsii. If this is the case which of the two names is more commenly used/recognised, are they indeed one and the same plant? Thanks for your time.

G'day Scott, I believe the correct name is Fero. Pilosus (v. pilosus according to Desert Tropicals), Stainesii was once given varietal status as F. pilosus v. stainesii.

I haven't seen Ferocactus pilosus var. stainesii, but I've seen Echinocactus pilosus var. stainesii. All those names were brought together as F. pilosus in 1933, long enough ago that you don't see the stainesii name so much now.
