I still think its M. elongata. Colour is variable, spines are variable (often with no centrals at all). I think the variation has been increased by hybridisation.
M. pottsi has unusual flowers and you'll know it in an instant if it flowers.
S&B you're possibly right, and M. pottsii has centrals that are upward pointing...flowers are a brownish-red colour. Here's a pic of my young M. pottsii(leona)... now deceased. :(
