Dan, it's Aloe rubroviolacea, a lovely species from the Arabian Peninsula.

Nice Aloe Jeff. A picture with the hummingbirds would be equally impressive!

You got hummingbirds? the closest thing we've got to a humingbird is our Eastern Spinebill, a beautiful little honeyeater with a long beak for getting the nectar from all manner of flowers... They chirp a lot, and sing nicely, but they don't hum. (Probably because they know the words)? :)

BTW love the aloe Jeff, that's an impressive inflorescence.
