Really a handsome one, whatever it is. I'd say some Gasteria, judging from the bloom, but the arrangement of buds on the spike suggests perhaps an Aloe. Also, Gasteria blooms tend to have a roundness where they're the pink that these show.

I have started a number of no ID Gasterias from leaves, takes a while but it does work. From what I've heard, you're right that Aloes can't be started that way.

It looks a lot like xGasteraloe 'Green Ice', alledged to be a cross of Gasteria 'Old Man Silver' x Aloe variegata. They grow slow, but can get quite big with time. Note that this is different than Gasteria 'Green Ice', listed at the Natures Curiosity Shop website.
