Dollar Store Treasures

Haven't been to the 99 cent store for a while now, so made a list and checked it twice and good thing too! They had just received shipments of new stuff which included a lot of fresh produce. All cleaned, packaged and ready to go. I got a pkg. of 2 huge yellow bell peppers, cukes, small tomatoes and a one pound net pkg. of fresh ginger(from China). I love candied ginger, but at almost $4.00 pound I buy a little at a time. Got my old recipe books out and found out how to make candied ginger and oooohh it is so good! Time consuming preparation but worth the effort. They also had a varied supply of clay garden pots.I passed on them as I have a shed full of pots that need plants now.

Also, got to take a short tour of my backyard, the straw mulch has taken root in some areas, new plants are emerging, day lilies are getting huge but no sign of blooms, the iris are budded up & ready to pop into blossom, the roses are blooming like crazy, need to be deadheaded. Mums are just about ready for their first cutbacks and the Dahlias are poking through the dirt. Bachelor Buttons are starting to bloom, splashes of bright orange from the marigolds popping up thru the weeds, oh yes, it's been a good day!

That's wonderful Pat:) I'm glad you've got flowers and plants starting to pop. I take the grandkids into the $ store for an adventure:) I heard you had an earthquake, anything break?

I hope you'll take pics and post them of your beauties blooming:)

I put my clay pots out for the toads to house under. I didn't get any painted this winter, I was too busy with other things.

Pat: I yelled "Hello" and waved as we passed thru Redding on our way down from Oregon. I don't suppose you heard me on Tuesday around noon. We stopped and had a salad at Applebees too. If I had known where we would be when I'd have made arrangements to meet you for lunch. Alas!

I didn't know the 99 cent store had produce! Learn something new every day! Ooooo, clay pots! Ok, I really have to veer off my usual path straight to WalMart and check it out.

I heard about that earthquake. It was in or near the Shasta-Trinity forest, I think. I keep forgetting to ask Mom if she felt anything from it.

Brenda, not all the 99cent/dollar stores have produce. The only one I know of is the 99 cent store up there in the K-Mart center. I love carrot salad and the deli at the market where I shop doesn't make it anymore. At the $ store they have packages of shredded carrot, probably a good pound in a package, makes a lot of carrot salad!
