Westelle, that's very strange! Doesn't sound reasonable to have sprouts(growth) but no root system. Maybe it just needs a bit more time. I haven't tried one for years, may have to get with the program, huh! Sorry, no help here! Pat

That does sound strange. I can imagine roots with no foliage, but...I hope you get some root action soon!

Nope. Not a one. It's leaves are still green, but not getting any bigger. I'm almost wondering if I should bury these in soil and see if they'll root-up to be planted out-of-doors next Spring.

Good idea, Westelle! It doesn't sound like it would hurt, anyway. I wonder if the same technique applies to Coleus cuttings. Anyone know - water or soil? I have a newly purchased one that I'd really love to save for next year, for me and for Mom. :)

Mine are huge unless I'm wrong on what I'm growing out in the old mini garden:) I have to take a pic, today's the perfect day for it. I'll go get a little wet again.

One thing I was reading about sweet potato vine is that it's a tuberous plant. I wonder if you would have to take part of the tuber to get it to root, rather than just a stem cutting....?

Yes, Leslie, that's the one, and from your link, it looks like I can try cuttings in water and soil! I've never had much luck getting cuttings to grow for me, but I've also never tried coleus. This is my 2nd plant, after trying one many years ago and killing it. LOL I've heard they're easy, so maybe my losing streak will be finally be broken!

Update: I did bury the tuber, but broke off one stem at the base. Oh well, stuck it in the ground too. A week later the "broken" stem was totally rooted and the other 3 rooted while attached to the "mother". I broke off those, and replanted all 4 in individual pots to see what will happen next.

That's great, Westelle, and very good to know! Mental notation for when I try growing SP vine again. :)
