Good, Bad & Ugly!

Our temperatures finally got down so that I could go out & play in the dirt today.GOOD: I got the weeds pretty well out, but I do have some bermuda grass to dig away at after the RoundUp application, that's o.k. though! Got 2 dozen Marigolds planted for some fall/winter color and the Mums are trying real hard to bud up & I'm sure they will. BAD: Decided to get the green house ready for some winter sowing, but I found a disaster. Some of the plastic has disintergrated and the net screening on the door is ripped to shreds.UGLY: Looks like cats got in there & had a field day. This is really ugly cause I get to thinking very ugly thoughts about these cats! Will have to set the trap out again, then call Animal Control. All in all it's been a productive day, hopefully tomarrow I'll get the roses deadheaded and stuff swept up!

GOOD: The mums I have in the ground (only 2 at the moment) have been blooming for at least a couple weeks now, and some of the ones in pots (six or so) have buds! All of my Salvias are happily displaying themselves for me, as well.

BAD: The leaf miners and aphids have made an appearance, but the bright side is that it's late in the season, and I have no worries....yet. The gopher(s) don't seem to mind Tabasco, and I swear, if they injure my lemon verbena, I'll...well, I won't be happy, but what can I do?

UGLY: The Bermuda grass is on a last-ditch growth spurt. It is evil incarnate! How anyone can willingly plant this stuff is beyond me. Winter shall prevail, however.

GOOD: The Salvias are outrageously blooming, and the tomatoes are also bearing again.
BAD: the deer are back.
UGLY: One of the Camphor trees suffered this summer and lost all it's leaves, which DH blew into the beds. The leaves formed a hard layer over the beds and doesn't allow the water to penetrate and now have to be manually removed -- by me. Two beds down and one more to go. GRRRRRR
