spring walk

Took my camera on my daily constitutional today and snapped a few photos. The black locust are especially showy this year, perhaps courtesy of the cold winter. While I know both are in the pea family, it amazes me how simular the flowers are to wisteria.

And while off topic, I couldn't resist throwing in a few photos of these babies. The city of Davis is uber-pc. When the new elementary school was built on ground occupied by burrowing owls, the city fenced off a big portion of the playground to protect the owls. The owls don't like their view obscured by vegetation, so instead of disturbing them by mowing the spring crop of grass, the city rented a herd of sheep and goats to do the job.The lambs and kids are adorable. I'm not sure what the owls think of having their plot overrun by herbivores, but the goats and sheep are having a good time, except possibly the enormously pregnant ones! Only in Davis, sigh.
