The photo is small but I saw your backyard once during a plant exchange. As I recall you like tropicals. My concern is with the Pepper Trees. They get huge and the trunk/roots will raise the surrounding soil and thus my concern is for the wall behind them. I can't recall if you have tropicals planted beneath the Pepper Trees. If that's the case, I'm not sure if that is a good combination since most Pepper Trees I have seen shed a lot of debris and I usually don't see anything growing beneath them since they are so drought tolerant....

In any event, if you are into the tropical look and plan to stay there a while I suggest replacing the Pepper trees with something less messy and more tropical looking. You may wish to replace just one tree at a time so as not to loose your shade otherwise you might have to use shade cloth to provide shade for plants. A tropical looking tree I suggest is Schefflera pueckleri (Tupidanthus) and a second choice would be the Schefflera actinophylla. Both can be found at your better nurseries. The Tupidanthus has drawbacks as well because they also have a lot of surface roots......

How about some colored/variegated leaves, like red Ti plants (cordyline), red-leaved cannas, variegated gingers, gold-dust plants? It would add more lush foliage with some color. Also I don't know what you have in terms of fragrance, but the white butterfly gingers are heavenly!!!Just a sugggestion, but as it is right now it looks great also, like your little paradise!
