any ideas?

it popped up in my yard this summer and is already about 2ft tall. it's leaves are beautiful and soft. the stem/trunk? is very thick and wood-like.

thanks for any input!

Most definitely a fig tree. And you might want to move it away from that block wall--Fig trees are notorious for their adventurous roots, which stay close to the surface and push things around. But it's a wonderful tree -- the shade in summer is tinted green by the lovely big leaves.
