Remove leaves from apple trees?

We have 2 apple trees which we planted last spring: Anna and Dorsett Golden. They are planted about 8 feet apart.

Anna has dropped almost all its leaves. Dorsett Golden still has most of its leaves and also a few blossoms.

I own the excellent "Growing Apples in the City" but cannot find instructions specifically saying "Always pull off all the leaves of your apple tree in Spring".

Yes or No: Should we pull the remaining leaves off our Anna and Dorsett Golden every year? If so, is January the best time to do this?

I used to leave the leaves on my Anna but eventually started having troubles with apple scab. Now I take the leaves off and discard them, and clean up any leaves under the tree.

Less potential for live over pests if you thoroughly clean up all fallen foliage, fruit and strip the tree of retained foliage as well. If you want to go further, removing old mulch and replacing with fresh will also help eliminate pests like Codling Moth.

Is it too late to remove the leaves from my Anna apple? Thx.
