It will live a while, then just throw it out. If there are any trees in your area, look around for seedlings or plant some of the seeds. This is not a tree worth spending money to buy. They grow super fast--my neighbor planted some seeds about 5 years ago and his trees are already 25' tall.

Throw it out??? I thought I could bonsai it if it got root bound?

Bonsai is a whole different question than just keeping it in a pot.

Yes, I know, root trimming and all that. Might work. Or might be too much hassle and still not have a healthy tree.
