corn for this area?

I want to try growing corn this year, and I am wondering if anyone else has had success with corn amnd can tell which varieties do well in this area. I am in Contra Costa County. I likely only have room for one variety, and I would like sweet corn. (I also eat a lot of cornbread and grits, and was considering growing a variety for this, but, since I only have room for one variety, I think I'll go with the grilling-and-eating variety. I might be interested in varieties for grinding to try next year, though.) I think I have seen Silver Queen at the farmer's market, which means it must grow in this area, but, then again, if I can get it at the farmer's market, why would I grow it? Some of the varieties I have seen in catalogues that look interesting are: Buhl, Country Gentleman, Golden Bantam (there is also an Improved variety), Orchard Baby, Sugar Dots, Sugarpearl, How Sweet It Is.

Any suggestions?
