Anyone tried Osmanthus Fragrans around Palm Springs? Can they handle the heat and low humidity? I am talking about planting in full sun.

Here in Pasadena, they do fine with summer heat and low humidity, but I have them in part shade. The one that's happiest gets morning sun and then is sheltered by the shadow of the house from about 1:30 pm on. I also water them regularly. My guess would be that full sun in Palm Springs might tend to make them burn. They'd probably survive, but not thrive. A better choice would be something that's not going to fight your climate.

Desert full sun and heat would fry the foliage of Osmanthus fragrans, and it would probably be a struggle to get this to do well even in a shaded and protected patio with just dappled sun.

Under a lath or shade cloth is your best chance.
