Lavenders with good foliage

I had a spanish lavender that was great in bloom but looked bad when it wasn't. I want to plant a hedge or drift of Lavenders but need some that will not look ratty after blooming. Anyone have suggestions for a plant that looks great in and out of bloom (preferably with intense color) TIA

Mentioned over on Perennials, I'm a fan of Goodwin Creek with it's grey foliage.

I grow a couple of different varieties of L. Stoechas and the common L. Angustifolia(I can't quite remember the different names.) I like the Stoechas (Spanish lavenders) the most. If you cut back on watering and if planted in full sun, they'll tend to stay compact. You could have something worth keeping during the "off season". Mine don't receive any water than what they receive as rainwater and whatever they can soak up from neighboring plants. I do admit though, that they start looking rather drab around September.

You could try growing Santolina for a similar grey effect. Here are mine growing in only partial sun.

Unlike tall lavenders, the dwarf varieties don't split open to expose the dead base. Thus they look better for a lot longer than the tall types. It's a simple matter of gravity.
