| When you say it didn't make it, what do you mean? What symptoms did it have? Carla in Sac |

We have a mature one in Citrus Heights. But it is no longer multi-variety. DH cut off all the limbs he didn't like and it is just one kind now and we don't know which one. It is a beautiful tree. We have codling moth each year. So a lot of the fruit have a rotten spot around the bug hole. He sprays each year but it's not very effective. There is an organic mini-wasp that we might try this year. He is pruning the tree lower for easier care, slow process. If you try another tree, keep it low. The tree is beautiful and the fruit we actually get is wonderful. We will struggle on. We also have a multi-variety peach undergoing amputation. Did a bore get your tree? Our plum has been working on its bore wound for 20 years. Paint the tree trunk of immature trees to prevent sunburn which makes it easier for the bores to drill in. Fair Oaks has a Master Garden program with a public garden that is opened to the public on occasion. They have some well pruned fruit trees and fruiting plants of all kinds. |
