Four Winds might carry it - they have a "Chinese Grapefruit", see link below. I would email them and verify this is a Hirado Buntan. You can also check with the California Rare Fruit Growers group nearby you to see if there are any available in your area. And very oddly, you might stumble across it at one of your big box stores like Lowe's or Home Depot. They sometimes have odd citrus available. I picked up 3 variegated Calomondins at my local Lowe's.

Well, I cannot find any source after calling around some more, even as far away as SoCal. I am resigned to picking up a "Chinese Grapefruit" locally next time I find it. I am beginning to suspect that this variety might not do well in California and hence the unavailability???

It's possible, ashley, as some grapefruit and pomello need the heat to sweeten. I would check with your CRFG society near you, to see if anyone has a lead on this variety. If anyone knows, I would suspect someone in CRFG would know.
