I've seen them at Lowes and HD. In some small stores they put stuff away for the winter.

I saw a whole bunch of them at Orchard Supply Hardware, my local HD and Lowes. You might want to call around to local nurseries too. They are easy to find in Norcal.

Green Arrow on Sepulveda carries them. I am glad I bought my two when I did because prices have gone up!

Once, just once mind you, I got some off of a Craigslist ad...whole barrels for $20 each. A whole barrel WILL fit in my Camry's backseat. And whole barrels are easy to cut in half if you have a skilsaw.
Any wineries near your area? I gotta believe this is who the retailers buy from. Cut out the middleman if you can. Otherwise I think whole barrels are selling for 60 bucks at the big boxes. Pretty dear.

I bought 2 wine barrel halves about 2 years ago at Lowes in Upland at around $20 each (about 35 miles east of L.A.). Like mentioned above, call around different Lowes, they're bound to have some, somewhere.

For those living in San Diego county, the best deals I've found on half barrels, in the last couple of years, have been at Dixieline Lumber. There is also a nursery near us that has carried half barrels that are not cheap, but are larger in diameter and of better quality. I don't know where those come from or if ever found elsewhere, but they've been quite nice.

As eloise said, Green Arrow on Sepulveda in North Hills has them, so does Sego Nursery in North Hollywood. If you're on the Westside, you could try any of the nurseries on/near Sawtelle & Olympic.

I recall seeing them the last time I went to International Garden Center in El Segundo on Sepulveda. I didn't notice the price, though.

Not all HD or Lowes will have wine barrels and they will go in and out of stock. Someone mentoned the Lowes in Upland having them, but I didn't see them there last Summer. I had to really go through 6 other Lowes and HD before I found them in the Rancho Cucamonga HD for $35.
