Where in Corona can you get (free) compost? Are you aware of the sanitation district giving it away (or selling for modest prices to residents) or are you talking about a larger retail company like Synagro? I come from the Inland Empire and Rialto and Fontana give away free composted green materials to residents but I have not heard of this in Corona where I now live and an internet search fails to find any mention of it. jimandginger, that was a news story last year that I linked to. Try calling the waste disposal company for your city or the city of corona to see if they are doing a compost giveaway again this year...

Here's a place in Chino I recently discovered. They have all sorts of dirt, compost, rocks and gravel. The prices are pretty good by the yard, half yard, or bags, depending what you want. It's near the 60 fwy. Linda

Instead of compost- have you tried wood chips?

In Ventura / Thousand oaks, the City ALWAYS maintained a huge pile of FREE woodchips for residents at the City Hall. Located in the Parking lot with a sign marking it all free.

I wish a City here in Orange County would adopt the use / free distribution of wood chips as it really helps to save water. I've been asking the City of Villa Park, but no luck so far.

Am going to try one of the local tree trim companies and see if they would be willing to provide me with free wood chips - saving them a run to the dump.

If anyone knows of a City or site in OC offering free wood chips - love to hear! Thanks!

Call over to the Fullerton Arboretum and get a hold of a master gardener named Lynne Gallagher. She does the composting there and more importantly she knows a company that will deliver free truckloads of good mulch if that would help you out.

Oceanside (I know it's not in ORange County) has the El Corazon Compost Facility which offers free mulch, compost, garden soil, etc. etc. to any resident. And...you can have as much as you want...no 60 gallon limit. So, if you have a friend in Oceanside...GO THERE! I just moved from there back to OC and I think it's the ONLY think I miss about Oceanside!
