Does anyone know of a nursery in SoCal carrying Eucalyptus deglupta, AKA Rainbow Eucalptus / Mindanao Eucalyptus? TIA.

If you get no answers here, you might look into getting them mail-order out of Florida.

Thanks. I've also put out the word to everyone I know down here about locating a local tree/ seeds.

There's at least one at the LA Arboretum. Beautiful bark!

Hmmm...and I haven't been there in years. There's just so much up that way that I never get to anymore because of the traffic hassle in getting there. I may have to go take a look, though.....

There are some at UCLA across from the Botanical Garden -- beautiful trunks!

Thank you! I may have to make a combined run up to L.A. at seeding time. I can't imagine that this is the first time I've ever heard of them...they're stunning.

Also some near the stadium there in San Diego. There's a reason they aren't commonly planted in southern California; they are fairly frost sensitive while young, being more tropical than their Australian species they also aren't drought tolerant, and if not planted as young seedlings, very subject to wind throw in Santa Ana winds. They also get very very tall. For all these reasons, they aren't an ideal choice for most residential gardens.

I have a lot of eucs anyway and we don't get frost on our property...the fact that they take more water makes me think that I'd only get to have one....lol..I'd be happy with just one...

Would have liked that, but it appears that after 30 years here, we will now be moving from our zone 23 into zone 18. I'm already looking at things that I grow here that won't do well in 18.... sigh.....
