I saw two at an Armstrong Nursery very recently. They were one-gallon. I think it was a little over $10 approx. Maybe you have an Armstrongs near you. They have a small native plant section.

My friend had to try twice to get a Matilija going. I don't know if they are difficult to grow or not. I was thinking of getting one myself. Good old "fried egg plant."

Mine took a while to establish, but after a few years, it went nuts. I had to move it during construction; I hope it recovers. It had a huge rootball.

I think that Rancho Santa Ana Botanical Garden goes to Westwood Farmers Market now every thursday from 12-6 pm. You may have better luck with this plant putting it into the ground during a spell or season of cool weather with alot of mulch. Another plant from the poppy family that you might want to try is Dendromecon hartfordii, Island Bush Poppy...w/lots of yellow flowers nearly year round.
