When I lived in Long Beach, CA, a neighbor had a planting in the sideyard, along the fence where it was ignored -- never watered, never fertilized, never cut back. It did fine.

Even so, the plant's normal habit is lax. It doesn't stand upright. Looks nice clambering over the ground.

I guess a ground-hugging plant is alright, except i bought it to feed the hummingbirds. I will probably move it at some point to the back forty, so it can do whatever it wants.
