So. Calif. Garden Tour May 5th and 6th

Just a reminder for those interested (and for those that have never heard of it beofre...) the Mary Lou Heard Memorial Garden Tour will take place the weekend of May 5th and 6th.

That's just a little over two weeks from now.

This is a FREE garden tour featuring "Real Gardens by Real People" which features 44 privately owned gardens that range from Long Beach to San Clemente and inland going EAST.

This is a great garden tour to go on. Lots of wonderful gardens to see for new ideas and inspiration, or to talk with fellow garden addicts ! This tour covers a very wide geographic area and is SELF GUIDED. NO tickets to buy, NO reservations required.

This garden tour benefits local charities through the Mary Lou Heard Foundation. Donations for the charities are accepted at each location, but are not "required"...we just want people to "give from the heart". NO donation is too small.

If you want to spend the day(s) viewing some GREAT gardens, this tour is a must. There are gardens for every taste and liking. Preview photo's are viewable on the tour website.

You can print out the newsletter/directory on the website OR pick one up at the supporting nurseries listed.

Make SURE you pay attention to the days the various gardens are open for viewing. Some are only open on Saturday, some only on Sunday, and some are open on BOTH days.

Are dogs allowed?

Usually dogs are not allowed on garden tours, tomato. Due to their proclivity for, well, you know. If you can't find out, better to not bring your doggie. Thanks, Renee. Sounds like a whopper of a tour!! And proceeds going to a worthy cause.

Some of these properties are small and can be crowded with people, some have cats / dogs of their own, some don't want dogs going to the bathroom there, etc. I would think common courtesy dictates that one should not take their dogs. There are a lot of gardens open to people on this tour, some may welcome your dogs, some may not.....

No dogs on garden tours. One tail wag and SNAP! there goes the prized $60.00 iris that everyone waited three years to see. Small children should be kept on leashes, and warned that picking the flowers will result in hair growing on their palms.

We have attended this garden tour for many years and I highly recommend it. The gardens will be quite diverse and you will come away with many ideas to incorporate into your garden. Download the tour newsletter that describes each garden or pick one up at one of the supporting nurseries listed on the link provided above. Bring your camera! -Mike
