Bay Area Food Shrubs for Birds?

My space is limited, I can't do shrubs that spread wider than 4-5'. I've got spots for full sun to full shade and everything in-between. I'm looking for shrubs, annuals and perennials that will provide seed, fruit or berries for birds. I've been searching my books and internet and have come up with a list, but what's missing from my list is what would be the best choices for the birds I'd find specifically here in Sonoma County.

Any favorites and/or suggestions?

The birds in my garden are fond of the berries of the Mahonia. Mine get up to about 6 feet, but there is now dwarf varieties to about 3 feet. I also have an Arctostaphylos, I believe it is bakeri 'Louis Edmunds' who's berries are like candy to the birds. Both of these are natives that do not require summer water, of anything else. Al

Thanks, Al! I appreciate the recommendations. None of those plants were on any of my lists. I really love the bell shaped flowers of the arctostaphylos and bakeri.
