A couple questions... If my compost pile is hot or heating up, am I supposed to be turning it or will that interrupt the heating process? Also, is there another way to aerate the pile without having t turn it at all? I heard somewhere that there are different heating stages: the pile heats up for about a wek and then cools down and does that repetitively for a few more times. Is that true?

When your pile starts to cool off it is time to turn it. Also check the moisture content at that time. You are keeping alive the micro organisms that are making your green waste into compost. They require oxygen, provided when you turn, and moisture which you add as needed. The green waste is their food. When you no longer can get your pile to maintain warm temperatures it is compost ready to use. Al
