Plants to plant by patio

I have a concrete patio which has a flower bed next to it. I planted azaleas and gardenias but they didnt do too well so i moved them. I want to plant bird of paradise and agapanthus and was wondering what other colorful and bold plants would look good with these and withstand the intense sun, poor soil and drying winds.

Gazanias are pretty and bright. Sages are good for those conditions too.

salvia leucantha would be nice. Tough plants to kill and be ready for some hummers every morning.

You should check out High Country Gardens---they specialize in desert and low water plants, and they have a great plant finder tool on their website. Gorgeous salvias, too!

They also carry some of my favorite plants, which would do well for you in your site, Ornamental Oreganos.
