Need suggestions to go with Western Columbine

I have a small planter about 1 foot by 5 foot faces NNE with yellow and purple Western Columbine.

Any suggestions what would go with them with the same watering as them and not much sun?

Doesn't need to get big, but during winter and spring I need something in there since it faces the street and Columbine are dormant. I really don't want to do annuals in winter cuz I don't want to disturb the seeds the Columbine drop.

If you are letting the seeds grow, anything you plant in there will interfere because the seedlings need light. Why don't you collect some of the seeds and throw them in there after you pull your annuals? I'd put in violas.
