Very nice! Have you tried to find out exactly what variety it is?

Oxalis pes-caprae is such a hideous (if pretty) weed, and recently SF Chron's gardening section highlighted O. siliquosa. One reader posted a comment saying it was terrible, an invasive weed. I had to post a rebuttal comment saying that person was mistaken - I've grown O. siliquosa, in fact the very same variety highlighted by the Chron, for eight years and it neither reseeds or spreads in any way.

Sometimes it's very much "one bad apple spoils the cart" in people's minds, isn't it?

I bought a one gallon plant from the Napa Valley Ornamental Nursery in St. Helena, a mom and pop operation dealing mostly with landscapers. Next time I am in I will get the full name. When I spend the money for a one gallon plant,I always have an intent to immediately divide it into at least three or more, repotting into one gallon pots. I won't plant into the garden for a year as the roots fill the new pots. This is how I lose the original tag, sometimes it breaks or the ink just fades away. Al

Al's plant probably is Cortaderia selloana 'Pumila', as this is the most commonly sold dwarf form, or the variegated foliage C. selloana 'Goldband'. I'd also suggest erring on the side of caution with Cortaderia selloana outside of suburban/urban neighborhoods; if you live adjacent to wild areas where it could potentially naturalize, it isn't completely sterile. It is really sad to see how widely Cortaderia jubata and C. selloana x jubata crosses have taken over the coastal hillsides here in parts of the SF Bay Area and southern California.

I lived for 40 years in Santa Cruz county and watched the pampas grass march across the county, which makes me extremely cautious. I have printed out the San Marcos comments and will take them with me to the nursery. Thanks for the link, stay tuned. Al

The ones I like look like that but are cotton candy pink, but I afraid to have one, and I don't have space. I had a weed one, and I had to pay someone to dig it out. It would cut my arms when I tried to trim in and the cuts had poison from the leaves that give an itchy rash.
