You would not still be picking sugar snap peas in most of California this late in the year. This year is so cold anything is possible, but I would pull them out now if they were mine, and plant some of the summer vegetables, having faith that we will have a summer. Al

This seems to be a common dilemma this year.

My peas and favas are really messing up my schedule.
Way later than they should have been, I keep waiting to pull to put in my tomatoes.
What a waste, as the harvest was meager compared to usual, and I just can't wait for all of those flowers to make more beans....

That being said, I'll put another round of peas down somewhere, in case the cold weather stays.....that way I will at least have something to harvest!

I have always gardened in the fog belt of Petaluma/Rohnert Park and can grow snow peas practically all year long. My English peas are just now coming to an end, but I've got some Sugar Snows coming up that I planted a few weeks ago that I expect to grow and produce through the next few months. Depending on what micro climate you're in, I don't think pea season is ever over in California.

It sounds like if I plant it in a cool area I should still be able to grow peas? Does that sound right?

Well, the first year I ever planted snow peas, I did in the summer not knowing they were any different than the pole beans and tomatoes I was putting in. They produced beautifully, and were put right next to my tomato plants.

I know a little more now, so in the summer, I tend to plant them on the side that gets late afternoon shade. But I don't know...I don't want to undermine all the great experience shared on these threads, but I tend to cringe when people say you can't plant things at certain times of the year, especially if you happen to live here in the bay area (z9 I was only guessing that you might). There are so many variations in the climates, it seems almost anything is possible.

But to answer your question more directly, if you were planting peas now, unless you're in a foggy cold spot on the coast, I would shoot for a cooler side of your garden. Leave the most sun-drenched for the peppers and tomatoes.
