Dwarf Cavendish Banana - Fruiting cycle?

The_Vito

My wife just bought a Dwarf Cavendish Banana plant. We have a good place for it, where it will be protected from our sometimes fierce Santa Ana winds here in Southern California. It should do well.

The growing season here is approximately year-round. ItâÂÂs my understanding that the plant propagates by developing âÂÂpupsâ --- new stems that grow off the root ball of the main corm (the primary pseudo-stem). Apparently, the main corm fruits and then dies. The next crop of fruit develops on the next oldest pup.

After nearly an hour of searching, I havenâÂÂt been able to find any reliable information about the fruiting cycleâ¦by which I mean how often the plant develops fruit on the main corm, and then repeats the cycle on the next stem.

Here are my questions:

1. How long does it take for to develop fruit after planting?

2. Can we expect to have several fruitings per year?

Thanks!
