Well, we are on septic. The field is on a slope. Whoever lived here prior to us, planted a Peach, Plum, and Apricot tree in the field, and they are 25 years old and thriving. Their roots are shallow and don't get into the septic lines. There are many weeds around them, and we try to keep them contained, but..... losing battle with the natives.

Natives are basically weeds growing where you wish them to be. When natives come up in the wrong place, they are weeds. I doubt natives would be a problem.

Get Scott's Septic friendly toilet paper. Good stuff and cheap at Walmart.

There are threads on septic. Search all gardenweb, not just gardens.

done plenty of drain cleaning in upstate NY. i have seen pine trees and willow trees be an issue multiple times. I can recall a few times seeing large healthy apple trees thriving on top of a leech field with out causing any obvious problems.

The leach field should not be a problem unless the soil is. A good draining soil will not cause a problem with any type of orchard or garden. Al
