I've attached a nursery source for the plant.

I've known a couple of people, very good horticulturist, who tried this and lost the plant within two years.

"Clippings" of this plant would certainly root very easily. As you know, willows are the source of salicylic acid, one of the original rooting compounds used by commercial growers.

There are hundreds (probably thousands) of woody trees that can be propagated from "clippings".

Special note: Salix arctica is native to California; in the very high Sierras, of course; sometimes in wetlands, sometimes not.

On a side note, will the rooting agents commonly bought in stores work on the Common Hawthorne, or Bay Trees? I have always wanted more Hawthornes and Bay Trees on my property, but I have been entirely unsuccesful growing them from seeds. Would a clipping, dipped in rooting agent, become a living plant?

Most (almost all?) of the rooting agents available at retail garden centers are very low concentrates of active ingredients, often soemthing like 0.1%.

Commercial propagators use a minimum of 0.3% for most woody plants and up to 0.5% for the hard to root stuff.

Of course, expense is higher.

Just as important as the rooting compound is the size of the cutting, bottom heat, and misting. Both common hawthorn (I'm assuming Rhaphiolepis) and bay tree are easily propagated from cuttings, even without rooting compound.

There's plenty of really good books on this subject. My favorite is "Plant Propagation" by Alan Toogood, DK Publishing.
